This month we released “De Menhir”, a dreamy nightly song about two Pagan lovers beneath the stars.
They are content to just ‘be‘ and lay there together in the present, letting the seers worry about their future. They’re enjoying every second of the moon’s light before daytime breaks, knowing that eventually this night will have to come to an end as the great wolf chases the moon across the skies.
Everything looks soft in the glow of the heavens tonight, even the stone monoliths around them. A time of healing, where two become one.
The Making-Of
De Menhir was written for the theatre show “Boys Won’t Be Boys” with the thought of creating a Viking song that does not put emphasis on violence and masculinity, but shows a bit of a softer side, while still remaining true to its ‘Viking nature’.
Sanne Carolyn‘s vocals give this song an extremely mysterious vibe, which works perfectly for a song about such high fantasy nightly adventures. You may have heard her sing before in Tavern Songs From Altera and other previous releases. Tom de Munck has also made his contributions to this song in the shape of the eerie light bells. Listen closely and you’ll hear them.
I would be happy to hear your thoughts! If you decide to share your thoughts online, do tag me so I can read about them or reach out and contact me if you feel like sharing your experience. Songs are experienced entirely differently from one person to the next. There is some kind of magic in that as well!
LYRICS
Sterren strelen
En het steen van de menhir lijkt zacht
Liggend helen
Wij zijn een onder de maan vannacht
Awen! Awen!
Ziener ziet
Waa-aa-aar
In’t verschiet
Wij gaa-aan
De dag komt niet
Enkel die maa-aa-aan
Laat zich zien
En Fenrir erachteraan
Awen! Awen!
Sterren strelen
En het steen van de menhir lijkt zacht
Liggend helen
Wij zijn een onder de maan vannacht
Wij zijn een onder de maan vannacht
Wij zijn een onder de maan vannacht
