It was a stormy afternoon in Sonsbeek Park when Onne ran into Bart, who was performing live at the Park Open event. After his performance, Onne approached him and invited him to a collaboration.
Onne’s project is called Arpow. With melodic and energetic house & techno music, he creates a sound of depth, complexity, space, adventure, feels and vibrations.
Bart’s project is called Bart Zeal. He writes in a distinctive folky style and finds vocal inspiration in artists like Luke Kelly and David Bowie.

Give It Time is a project born from the minds of both Arpow and Bart Zeal. These two seemingly contrasting genres blend together in this one composition.
Arpow, known for his melodic house and techno, composed the song over the course of an entire year. During this time, Bart Zeal pitched lyrics ideas which they bounced back and forth until they created the final shape of the release. This is Give It Time.
Give It Time is a song about overcoming hardship in the creative process. At times, artistry gets in the way of itself. There are times when creation falters. Many things can cause this, from a destructive perfectionistic attitude to being swamped with other responsibilities.
In their song, Arpow and Bart Zeal urge all creators to give the process some time. Sometimes you just have to put it on the shelf to pick back up at another time.
Anecdotally, the song itself became analogues to its own contents. The artists started writing the song by creating different compositions until they found something they liked, but after that it took many months (over a year) to capture the sound and feeling they were looking for.
They literally had to give it some time to allow it to mature.
If we follow the journey of the main character in this song, it starts after the creation stopped: A chance was missed. There once was hope for success, but things didn’t work out. So, what about it?
The writers of this song believe that it is no use to keep thinking about it, but to focus on the positive side of things. Put down your work, go clubbing, enjoy yourself, shoot for the stars, enjoy life! There will be another try and once that time comes, you’ll be ready for it.
So, no matter what; Do not give up and Give It Time.
Listen to the song and envision your own past experiences with the theme of creative processes or experiences with setbacks.
Enjoy!
LYRICS
What about the chance we missed?
The best thing to try
To make the stars align
Is dance and wish
There’s always one more try
And life is so much more than this
You know you’re more than ready
To shine
Fly ever so high
And give it time
And give it time
And give it time
Seek and find
Rain or shine
Wait and see
Tried and true
What about the chance we missed?
The best thing to try
To make the stars align
Is dance and wish
There’s always one more try
And life is so much more than this
You know you’re more than ready
To shine
Fly ever so high
And give it time
