We released “Goodnight to the Moon” on the 20th of May. Let me tell you something about the making of this track!
When 2024 was at our doorstep, I had a clear idea of what kind of music I would be producing that year. It was unlike anything I’ve released thus far; soft gentle songs. I wanted more emotion, more poetry, and more ease of listening. Although every song released by my Bart the Bard project has been in the right direction, Goodnight to the Moon is the first one to achieve that vision in its entirety.
I visited EEF who played harp on this song. We spend another sunny day, sometimes forgetting to close the doors for the recording until we heard the birds in our headphones, and recorded her parts in a single sitting.
Goodnight to the moon is like a bedtime story. It is meant to be listened to at night and it is meant to awaken the imagination. The song is about our loss of imagination as we grow older and forget our childlike wonder. Have a listen and find out about all of that for yourself!
LYRICS
He spoke
of rivers and forests
singing in chorus
to comfort the day
I heard
that cities destroyed it
although they loved it
still, they were to blame
It used to be
It’s a fantasy
Yet before too soon
we forgot to say;
goodnight to the moon.
He said
that there is a creature
that runs in the night
and puts dreams in our heads.
I knew
by this time tomorrow
no matter how hard I’d try
I would forget
It used to be
It’s a fantasy
Yet before too soon
we forgot to say;
goodnight to the moon.
He’s a Mage old
or a dragon with rider
the beast of the bog
with the fairies aloft
I’m old
though I’m not much wiser
my head’s full of fog
and my skin’s peeling off
It used to be
It’s a fantasy
Yet before too soon
we forgot to say;
goodnight to the moon.
