We released “Down By The River” on the 20th of February. Let me tell you something about the making of this track.
This song was made in collaboration with The Dark Composer and as his name suggests he creates or covers songs and puts them in a dark, mysterious, sometimes evil theme.
This cover song is originally sung by a woman and there are some specific high notes in there that were hard to reach. I made a few conscious style choices as far as the lead vocals are concerned, to build up tension as well as accommodate my own voice and style.
Starting out dark and low with deep voices, the song only truly starts to take off towards the second half of the first chorus. In the bridge there is another bit that I adapted to suit our version better. In the end, this song pushed me to the very limits of my vocal range. I don’t usually go from my lowest to my highest pitch within one song, but here I had no choice. That turned out to be a good thing!
But enough talk, give it a listen!
LYRICS
Lace your heart with mine
Let your sleeping soul take flight
Take me through the night
Down, down, down by the river
Down, down, down by the river
(by the river, by the river)
Hanging moon in fog
Mists will lead where you belong
Sweep me off my feet
Down, down, down by the river
Down, down, down by the river
Down, down, down by the river
(by the river, by the river)
Inky embers
(inky embers)
Swirl and dance
(swirl and dance)
Just leap the flames to take a chance
To be with me tonight
Take my hand and hold it tight
‘Cause you and I are everywhere
The night is young
We’re goin’
down, down, down by the river
(by the river, by the river)
Down, down, down by the river
Down, down, down by the river
(by the river, by the river)
Don’t wake me up, just leave me there dreaming
